Pay as you go fits most service businesses: no monthly bill, and a slow month costs nothing. At high card volume a monthly plan with a lower card rate can cost less. Working alone with a $150 average job, and with the usual four months a year that bring no revenue, that starts above about $13,100 a month in card payments in the working months, or about $105,000 a year. Their plan bills you all twelve months; our fee stops when the work does.

Fair questions about the price
- Is Service Penguin really free?
- Yes. Every feature, unlimited customers, estimates, invoices and team members, with no monthly bill and no seats. The only charge is one small all-in fee when you take an electronic payment.
- What counts as an electronic payment?
- A card or bank payment processed through Service Penguin: in the customer app, from a payment link, or with Tap to Pay on iPhone or contactless payments on Android. Payments you record as cash or check are free.
- Is the fee on top of card processing?
- No. The fee is all-in. It includes card processing, merchant bank fees and interchange, and there is no other fee.
- Do my customers pay anything?
- No. The customer app is free for them, and the fee is never added to their invoice.
- Do texting, messaging or routing cost extra?
- No. One-way texting to your customers and optimized routing are included at no charge, and in-app messaging with your customers is unlimited.
- Does it cost more as I add crews?
- No. Team members and crews are included at no charge. One person or ten crews pay the same: nothing a month.
- What if I take a lot of card payments?
- Service Penguin also has fixed monthly plans with lower processing. When your card payments grow to the point where a monthly plan costs less, you can move to one in the same app, with your customers, jobs and saved cards where they are.
- Do I need a credit card to sign up?
- No. You start with your email and your business name.
- Why would you give the software away?
- Because we only earn when you do. We get a small slice of the electronic payments you take, so our business depends on you getting paid.
